Sony Ericsson to offer mobile music solution in collaboration with Sony Group companies.
Sony Ericsson's new 2005 mobile music strategy announced this week at the 3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France, features the integration of high quality digital music players into its classic, stylish mobile phones under the world famous Walkman brand.
The move by Sony Ericsson in collaboration with Sony Group will create a compelling consumer proposition capable of redefining the digital music market and driving operator revenue,' said Husni Al-Assi, General Manager, Sony Ericsson Middle East and Africa. 'Based entirely on open standards, the strategy will focus on delivering easy-to-use music phones supported by a full range of exciting music download services, including the Sony Group digital music offering.'
Sony Ericsson's product team felt that a credible mobile music player had to combine key features like easy-to-use software to copy music to the device, large music storage capacity, long battery life, quality headphones and cutting edge design. The company is ideally positioned to integrate these features with advanced phone functions including excellent voice, messaging, imaging, and on-line connectivity, to create a device that not only satisfies consumer needs but offers great opportunities for network operators to develop new and exciting services.
'The Walkman® showed us that people of every generation love listening to music while on the move, and we believe the mobile phone is the perfect device to extend the world of digital mobile music to a much wider audience,' said Miles Flint, President of Sony Ericsson at 3GSM this week. 'Since its creation, Sony has sold more than 340 million units of Walkman® branded music devices globally, illustrating the mass appeal of mobile music. Sony Ericsson is proud to write a new chapter in the Walkman® story'.
Sony Ericsson's range of Walkman®-branded phones will support the most popular digital music file formats and services. Sony Ericsson believes that supporting open standards is the best way to offer operators and consumers the highest quality and widest choice of services to meet their individual needs. In support of this, Sony Ericsson announced its collaboration with Sony's music download service, Connect™, which will open on-line digital music purchasing to mobile phone users in various countries around the world.
The Connect™ service is currently available in the US, UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands and is expanding rapidly. Since its launch in 2004, Connect™ has attracted hundreds of thousands of registered subscribers and is already compatible with millions of portable Sony devices.
The first Walkman® branded Sony Ericsson music phones will be announced in March and will enable users to transfer their existing CD collections to their phones via a PC. Future products will be capable of playing copy-protected music files purchased and downloaded via a PC from the Internet or direct to the phone.
Sony Ericsson's successful P900 and P910 smartphones already support the world's first personalised mobile streaming solution, offered by an operator in Finland under Sony's StreamMan brand. PlayNow™, Sony Ericsson's popular ringtone download service, operated on a global basis in conjunction with Sony BMG Music Entertainment, has attracted hundreds of thousands of users in its first months of operation.
Sony Ericsson will continue to work with a number of music partners, including Sony Group companies, to offer attractive and easy-to-use consumer download and music streaming services with more announcements later in the year.

Mobile phones have become a must for a large number of people these days. New models of mobile handsets are launched into the markets every other day. Following description presents a detailed view of the historical development and latest trends in these wonderful devices.
A mobile phone is a hand held electronic device that is used for long range mobile communication. A mobile phone is also called a cellular phone or simply a cell phone. A cell phone uses a network of specialised base stations called "Cell Site" for mobile communication purposes. The cell sites, in turn are connected to a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Most current mobiles (except satellite phones) use a cellular network of base stations for operational purposes.
The zero generation (0G) of mobile phones was introduced in 1945. These devices were not officially categorised as mobile phones as they did not allow for the automatic change of channel frequencies during the course of a call. World's first cellular network was created by Bell Labs engineers in 1947 for AT&T. Hand held cellular radio devices were first introduced in 1973. Cellular phone networks have spread rapidly to all parts of the world since then. In 1984, Bell Labs introduced the "Call Handoff" feature that allowed the users to move between many cell sites during the same conversation.
Motorola is widely regarded as the inventor of the world's first hand held cell phone that could be used in non-vehicle settings. Motorola manager Martin Cooper made the first call on a hand held cell phone on April 3, 1973. The first commercial cellular network was launched in 1979 by NTT. The first generation (IG) of cell phones was introduced in mid 1980s. The first modern network technology on digital 2G cellular technology was launched on a GSM standard in 1991. Third generation (3G) of cell phones was launched for the first time in Japan by NTT DoCoMo on a WCDMA standard in 2001.

SAMSUNG MOBILES
Samsung Telecommunications India, has just unveiled a new range of cell phones which has been dubbed “Mobile Tracker Phones”. The three new entry-level mobile phones from Samsung are the SGH- E250, SGH-X520 and SGH-C140.
The highlights of the new mobile phones launched by Samsung include new security features like Mobile Tracking (MT), emergency SMS, and privacy lock. This surely empowers consumers with security during mobility.
Speaking about the new security features of the newly launched Samsung mobile phones, Ryu Hyun Chul, MD, Samsung Telecommunications India, said, “Samsung understands Indian consumer needs and through our secured phones, we have tried to address three of the lager issues of mobile security i.e. securing mobile phones and preventing any untoward usage or incidents through MT, securing the safety of near and dear ones through emergency SMS, and securing the confidential data’s that are stored in that phone.”
The SGH-X520 mobile phone from Samsung is a very chic and slim phone, which comes in exotic colors such as Indigo Blue and Wine Red. The Samsung SGH-X520 mobile phone has features such as FM Radio, VGA Camera, and 65K color CSTN LCD screen that measures 4.8cm with a resolution of 128×160 pixels. Moreover, this mobile phone comes with an internal memory of 2.8MB.
The second phone launched by Samsung is the SGH-E250, which according to the company is the most fashionable slide-up style mobile phone available at a very low price. The SGH-E250 is embedded with a VGA camera and the latest multimedia features. Besides, it also sports a 5cm TFT screen, stereo FM radio, video recording, Bluetooth wireless support, 12MB internal memory and a MicroSD slot that is expandable up to 2GB.
Lastly, the SGH-C140 mobile phone from Samsung is an entry-level bar phone which has a compact and stylish design. It sports a 65K color LCD, a speaker phone meant for Handsfree communication, and 16 polyphonic ring tones. The Samsung SGH-C140 mobile phone has a screen that measures 3.8cm with a resolution of 128×128 pixels, and an internal memory of 700KB.
However, the most important features, which are common to all the three newly launched mobile phones from Samsung, are mobile tracking, emergency SMS and privacy lock. The Mobile tracking feature detects unauthorized usage of the mobile phone. When a different SIM card is inserted into any of the three newly launched mobile phones, the Mobile Tracker-enabled phone automatically sends an SMS to up to two numbers pre-defined by the original user revealing the IMEI number of the phone along with the new SIM number. This helps to retrieve the mobile phone back incase it lands up in wrong hands.
The emergency SMS feature allows the user to send an SMS for help when in trouble or when in some kind of an emergency. All the user has to do is push the volume key four times consecutively to activate the emergency feature. Once it is activated, it automatically sends an SMS to up to 10 predefined numbers with an accompanying text that read “Emergency. Help Plz”, after which the phone goes into ‘emergency receiving mode’ where the user can only receive calls from the 10 predefined numbers. Further, when they call back, the phone automatically receives the call with one vibration.
And the last feature common to the SGH-C140, SGH-X520, and the SGH-E250 is the privacy lock feature that enables users to lock all the files and folders inside the phone. This helps to safe guard information against unauthorized access.
All the three newly launched Samsung mobile phones SGH-C140, SGH-X520, and SGH-E250 are available at a MRP of Rs 2,579; Rs 6,149; and Rs 8,299 respectively.

Motorola Mobiles

It’s been no secret that there has been a lot of news, recently, about Motorola’s problems in the mobile phone market. There have been many, many news stories, where people have expounded at great length, about what they feel is the imminent demise of Motorola.
Is it necessarily the case, though? Perhaps we need to take an objective look at the situation, and see if we can work out some rational conclusions. In which case, I shall switch off my humour mode, and treat this story with the seriousness it deserves.
One of the key issues facing Motorola is to do with its line of mobile phones; specifically, the perception that Motorola phones are samey and boring. A mere few years ago, it’s fair to say that Motorola changed the landscape of the mobile world with one handset. The RAZR. It proved mobile phones didn’t need to be bulky or ungainly, but could be elegant and slim.
The problem is, though, that Motorola haven’t deviated very much from that design blueprint ever since. Even the Motorola RAZR2 V8 looks broadly similar to the old RAZR. And there’s the problem. Not that Motorola make boring mobile phones, because they make some very, very nice ones, but that the public’s perception of their products is as ‘boring’. Which is an unenviable position for them to be in, because let’s not forget, people’s perceptions affect what they buy, and if your product makes them go “meh”, they won’t buy it.
After all, Siemens went down the pan, because their mobile phones were perceived as being poorly built and unreliable (it didn’t help that in Siemens’ case, however, the perception was accurate).
Motorola didn’t help themselves, either, with their poor showing at the Mobile World Congress, showing only 1 top-end handset, and 2 budget mobile phones that no-one really cared about. But there is one territory where Motorola still has a massive penetration, and that’s the USA (a market where, significantly, Nokia aren’t as powerful. An opportunity, right there, methinks…)
One could argue that in America, the market is being kept artificially backwards, because service providers like AT&T and Verizon are selling purely on tariff, and locking people into 2 year contracts with an out-of-date phone. That certainly seems true according to Ewan’s travels through America on SMS Text News, but as we’ve seen the iPhone is rapidly changing the American mobile marketplace. So, the landscape is changing, even there.
Let’s hope new CEO Greg Brown can get Motorola to change with it, because it’d be a real shame if they die out altogether. Even if they’re bought by another company, I get the distinct sense they do have some great ideas hidden away.
They just need to get out from under the safety blanket of the RAZR brand. Then they could rock the world again.

Intodution
Cellular telephone systems are a way of providing portable telephone services. Each phone is connected by a radio link to a base station. In turn, this is linked to the telephone network, which is the largest machine on the planet. There is nothing special about radio links - they've been used for scores of years. What is clever is that with a cellular system, each base station covers a limited area, and if a phone moves away, the connection is passed across to an adjacent base. This is called a hand-off, and allows mobility of phones, whilst permitting re-use of frequencies by base stations in nearby, but not adjacent, 'cells'. The size of cells varies from system to system and place to place. They can be from over 50 miles across on the analogue 'TACS' systems from Vodafone and Cellnet, to less than 500 metres in busy areas on the 'GSM 1800' networks, One2one and Orange. The smaller the cell size, the more users that can be fitted onto the network, and the less power the mobile handset needs to reach the base, so it and its batteries can be smaller and lighter. Unfortunately, small cell sizes means more cells, so more expense to install, and more problems covering remote, low-population areas. A cellular network is an expensive thing to build, and it costs well over £1,000,000,000 to get into this in a serious way. The four UK players in this game are all big, multi-national companies, who have big money to invest, or access to it from other sources.

About TACS
TACS is the traditional analogue mobile phone system, introduced in the 1980s by Vodafone and Cellnet at 900MHz. ETACS is the same thing, but includes some extra channels borrowed from military frequencies, which were added in congested areas when the networks found new cell sites undesirable. The system worked quite well enough for most people's needs. In fact, on a good connection, the clear, smooth sound of a TACS phone was more pleasant than the rather harsher sound of a digital phone.

About GSM
GSM is a digital equivalent to TACS, but using digitally encoded signals, which are not prone to eavesdroppers with "scanner" radio receivers. Vodafone and Cellnet have 900MHz GSM networks in the UK. Both networks are building fast, and GSM is now as widespread as the TACS systems, if a little more patchy. About PCN PCN is really an old marketing term, not a technology. The industry no longer refers to PCN at all, but instead calls it GSM 1800.PCN/GSM 1800 is the system that is most recent to the market. It is used by the One2one, Virgin and Orange networks. Vodafone and Cellnet also have frequencies allocated in this band, but it is not yet clear how they plan to use them. GSM1800 was designed and expected to become a mass-market system, and the Orange network is being built with a design capacity for many users. Generally, signal strength inside buildings can be a problem at these frequencies, but more transmitters are improving signal generally as they come on line. In some buildings it works better than 9800, though!

Description This book explains the basics of circuit switched and packet data via a variety of wireless mobile systems. Included are descriptions of various public and private systems that are used for mobile data and messaging services. You will learn the different types of systems that can be used for mobile data ranging from simple cellular data connections to mobile telephones to dedicated packet radio communication systems and how the cost of these systems can range from less than a few pennies per gigabyte to over $10 per kilobyte. In addition to traditional mobile data systems, wireless system operators are converting their voice, dispatch, and paging systems to two-way mobile data systems. This has resulted in a much lower cost of sending mobile data, and it has increased consumer awareness of the availability and reliability of mobile data services. Because the needs of voice and data communication are different, the operation of the mobile data radio is different. The reliability, cost, and bandwidth limitations compared to wired communication systems can significantly vary. This book provides an understanding of what some of the key differences between mobile data systems and services. You will discover that the key types of mobile data devices include external radio modems, wireless PCMCIA cards, embedded radio modules, and mobile telephones. External radio modems allow the customer to simply plug in their mobile data device to their USB or Ethernet data port to their desktop or laptop computer. Wireless data PCMCIA cards can be added to most laptop computers or embedded radio modules allow devices such as PDAs and Laptops to integrate high-speed wireless data. Some mobile telephones include both voice and mobile data capability. Mobile data devices can have single mode (data only) or they may provide for dual mode (voice and data) capability. You will discover how the mobile data system can have dramatically different data transmission rates. In introduction to the different types of mobile data systems is covered including cellular data, DataTac™, Mobitex, CDPD, GPRS, EVDO, HSDPA and WLAN hot spots is provided. The New World Seven Wonders

THE TAJ MAHAL
Taj acquires a different hue at different time of the day. You might have seen Taj 15 times but when you return back to see it 16th times, you will find it something different from the earlier visit. The Taj at noon, the Taj at sunset, under the full moon, against the setting sun, and against the rising ball of fire, each time the mausoleum acquires a different accent and tells a different story. It was a reminder of the love of a king for his queen Mumtaz Mahal who could inspire such a monument and also of the king himself who could sign his love across the horizon.
Whichever story it tells, there is a certain vulnerability, a softness about Taj Mahal that always touches the visitor. The white structure, actually nothing but a grave and yet so much more, stands unassumingly in spite of the yellowing pollution retaining a certain charm that takes the breath away.
The glory of Taj Mahal as seen today is considerably reduced. Historians and travelers have recorded a spectacle of grandeur and extravaganza when Shahjahan had built it. The beautifully laid out gardens holding out the Taj almost a thousand feet away from the entrance gate are said to have been beyond description. It is said that the gardens are modeled along the Persian Char Bagh style. Paved inroads divide the patches of green and little fountains and mark the two halves of the garden.
The Taj stands on a raised platform. At the entrance there are two sets of stairs, one leading to the real sarcophagus and the other to cenotaph counterparts. Rising on all four sides are minarets and in the center lies the magnificent dome over the central hall. The dome is crucial to Islamic architecture, cosmologically uniting heaven and earth. The square edifice represents the material universe while the dome symbolizes the vault of heaven. The Taj itself is octagonal and the base is said to represent the transitional phase. The finial, the golden needle at the top is indicative of the region of transcendence.
On the grave itself 99 names of Allah are inscribed and it is said to have lain inside a gem-encrusted balustrade. On it were placed bowls of jewelry, all of which together could still not match the beauty of the one who lay interred there. Persian carpets and sheets of silver for the door keep the silence in the mausoleum in splendorous solemnity. From the ceiling hung a glittering golden globe with convex mirror. While there were other chandeliers too, this was the most beautiful one and had come from Aleppo and it constantly wove patterns in the room.
